What's your value proposition?
Let's try to apply this marketing term to your business and to other areas of your life.
I'm working with a small team to write a web site and video script for a mid-size company that supplies mattress components in Los Angeles. We wanted to make sure their "value proposition" stands out clearly.
First, we outlined 3 umbrella terms such as Quality, Service, Value.
Why? The company does use quality supplies, they provide excellent customer service and they have a number of ways they benefit their customers through providing additional services. This is their "value-added" piece.
Second, we broke down the umbrella terms into smaller pieces.
They have an extensive capacity to handle any order. They offer a huge inventory. They ship all orders within 24 hours using their own trucks. And there were several other statements.
We could "drill down" even a bit further to discover stories of how their customers have benefitted by getting a product to market or selling more units because of their supplies.
I recommend this site and article by Jill Konrath for more on Value Proposition.
In summary, a value proposition is how your service or product benefits your customers and clients. How much money did they save? How much more did they sell? How exactly did they benefit?
If you're writing a brochure, web site, or video capturing these points are vital to your marketing message.
Now let's apply this to other areas of your life. So if you're searching for a job, what's your personal value proposition for an employer? What will you do for them and how will they benefit?
What about your family? What is your value proposition as a husband, wife, father, mother or family? This could be a fun exercise which will give you purpose outside of work.
Stating your value proposition clearly will also help you determine your "core" business.
Have fun and wishing you success!
