Sailing to Philadelphia

A Rock Band Wrote This Song?!

This evening as I was washing dishes, I had Dire Straits playing and I listened to the song "Sailing to Philadelphia" sung with Mark Knopfler and James Taylor. An amazing feeling swept over me as I listened. This was a song, more like a ballad, of Mason and Dixon who were surveyors of the famed Mason Dixon line.

I thought it amazing that they recorded this part of history which is seldom mentioned. Every high school history class in the U.S. should play this tune.

It was soulful and pointed to the differences between Jeremiah Dixon and Charlie Mason.

Well-written, excellent instrumentation . . . I love it.
