I've always enjoyed sports and I've followed Pittsburgh sports since I'm originally from western Pennsylvania. But I was always turned off by the salaries, the crimes, the egos . . . blah, blah, blah.
Plus, I had more important matters weighing on me: parenting strategies for our developmentally delayed adopted children, struggling to earn a living, volunteering in too many different capacities. But about 2 years ago, I listened less and less to my usual talk radio in the car and starting tuning in to ESPN radio where I listened to Dan Patrick.
It was an escape from the pressure and the grind of a career that seemed headed nowhere. I listened mostly during football season and waited to hear what I could about the Steelers. But then I also was drawn in by his conversational, almost philosophical style. He was inquisitive without letting his ego get in the way. My first job was in radio as a news reporter and I've got to say that sportscasters are some of the brightest people, or at least most knowledgeable, I've come across.
Then he left. And I came across his site and his blog. Even if you're not a sports fan, I suggest you tune in because it shows how the web is really geared to let someone's personality show.
Hey, Dan . . . I can even link to you if you like!
