A Los Angeles Duplex for $1.2 million

I came across it on Detroit Street, near 3rd and La Brea, a typical neighborhood - nothing too fancy. Now, the duplex was two story and each unit is about 1,100 square feet. I was talking to a man who wanted to see me about his need for gutters on a similar type of duplex he and his wife bought about 8 years ago.

He told me, "hey, this doesn't make sense." He figured with a significant down payment your monthly is going to be about $6,000 per month. And the maximum rent you can get would be about $2,500 monthly - that may be for both units.

The building itself backed up to an alleyway. But the owners were probably in no hurry to sell if they have a lot of equity.

Los Angeles and LA County, how does it work?
