Writing Your Novel - You Gotta be Determined!

That's my opinion.

In college, my major was Speech-Communication and my concentration was short story writing. People have said I should write a book about my experiences as an adoptive dad, and, yes, I've even started on a novel or two . . . I've got to say, short story writing and blog writing fits my personality the best. I like the immediate gratification!

So I was deeply impressed by Andrea Landry, a Bakersfield, California, resident who has written two novels at the age of 39. Affairs to Remember is available online and she's working on two more novels at the same time! A publisher is waiting for one of them What's in a Name, a semi-autobiography.

Congrats, Andrea, on persevering. She told me about her writing style and how storytelling is a part of her life.

"We moved to California from Chicago when I was about 5 years old," she said, "and I would tell stories to get to sleep. Then I started writing when I was about 14.
I've learned, as a writer, there are limitations to what you should create in a story. There's a glass ceiling. There's a limit to what people are willing to read and what they want to read."

Andrea feels she has hit on a successful combination.

"I feel I've touched on what people want to read and what's on my heart - issues relating to romance, togetherness and even the tougher issues such as family violence."

She also credits Pam Osbey of Osbey Books, Incorporated, with helping her get a better understanding of how to work with publishers.

Her first two novels are:

The Trouble with Marriage and Affairs to Remember which is available online through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders Books.

Andrea, let us know when your fifth novel is underway!

This is a great article. Often people wait to live their dreams out loud but Ms. Landry is moving along a speed's ahead. Congratulations on the future books and keep on keeping.
