your child (teenager, college student but still your child) walks in to get his or her tongue or eyebrows pierced or someone's picture scrawled on to their back . . . if you can't stop them from the tatoo in the first place then here are some words of advice (don't loan them the $20 they're asking for if they don't listen):
The information comes from Consultant for Pediatricians magazine June 2007:
Health safeguards to look for in a tatoo or body piercing studio include. . .
- the person washes his or her hands with an anti-bacterial solution before and after each procedure
- the practitioner wears sterile surgical gloves
- sterilized equipment is individually packaged and is opened in front of the client
- Sterile, disposable needles are used intstead of tough-to-sterilize piercing guns
- An FDA-regulated autoclave is used
- The area is sanitized before and after each client with a virucidal disinfectant
- Contaminated materials are properly thrown away!
Did they listen? Ok. Now you can give them $20. Oh, and the recommendations stay the same if you or your significant other is visiting the studio.
