The Tantrum Du Jour

So children are our future? Hmm, what a future we must have. This was a challenging afternoon as I had to miss a sales meeting. Our 15-year-old was throwing a severe tantrum, including heaving garden shears at the kitchen window.

Recently, well-known Pastor Rick Warrren told a gathering of evangelical pastors in Colorado Springs the Church needs to do more to adopt orphans.

I agree. But people need to do this with their eyes open.

Here we are parents with 17 years experience and we still need a family psychologist debriefing with us each day, a behavioral specialist, regular meetings with the schools, working with state and local agencies, etc.

I don't regret adopting 4 and then taking on 2 boys in their teens who had no where else to go. But it's one thing to motivate people like Rick Warren can do - and it's another to endure the day to day grind of working with deeply engrained mental and emotional needs. It takes a church and wise, empathetic professionals to assist the parents.
